It's after midnight and I'm restless. Unable to sleep, I lie in bed staring blankly at the ceiling, inhaling short and shallow breaths. The night that surrounds me feels cloaked in an eerie stillness. Exasperated, I kick off the sheets and climb out of bed. I pull my hair up into a ponytail and make my way down the long corridor, the hardwood groaning in protest beneath my feet. Looking through the screen door into the backyard, I can see the grass is awash in moonlight. The night is quiet as I grab the handle and step out onto the patio. The door, screeching like an owl, slams shut behind me. A long yawn escapes my mouth and I rub my eyes, glancing over to the small meadow at the edge of the woods. I do a double-take. Incredulous, I blink and rub my eyes again, certain they must be deceiving me. They aren't. Standing only fifty feet away, glowing under the bright light of the moon, is a huge white wolf. Dropping her head down, she glares at me, letting out a low, rumbling growl. Goosebumps ripple across my skin, hairs stand on end, and my heartbeat jumps to a rapid crescendo. Frozen in fear, I watch in horror as the wolf starts galloping towards me. I quickly reach for the screen door but somehow she reaches me first. With a loud bark she lunges and I throw my arms up in defense. Latching onto my forearm, she fixates her eyes on mine and sinks her teeth in deep, hitting bone. I shriek as the pain shoots like lightning from nerve endings to synapses, causing my eyes to temporarily blackout. Thus begins our vicious wrestling match as she tries to drag me towards the woods. Seconds stretch on like minutes as I desperately try to fight her off. Sliding, kicking, grunting, punching---blood, sweat and fur fly into the air as we continue our deathly struggle. We are nearing the edge of the woods. Fearing that the last of my strength is leaving me, I cry out and give one last forceful punch, an uppercut straight into her ribs. She lets go. Then she calmly sits down in the grass and looks at me, her ferocity now replaced with an expression of peace and unconditional love. Bewildered, I look down at my arm and see that it is perfectly unharmed. Of course it is. This is a dream. The wolf looks at me. "That was a test---of your courage", she says.
My heartbeat slows as fear gives way to curiosity. Reflected in the wolf's green eyes I now see only kindness.
"I am your spirit guide. I have been sent to help you along your journey in this life. Know that you are never alone, and you can always come to me when you are in need of counsel."
"Who are you?" I ask, shocked and more than a little confused.
"I am the guardian of knowledge. I've been collecting the wisdom inherited by each generation of humans for thousands of years."
"You are 'Intuition'." I say, although it is more of a question than a statement.
The wolf chuckles, flashing her long white teeth. "I am much more than that, but yes, I suppose you could use that word. Whenever you need an answer, or are unsure of what to do, I am here."
It was 2014 when the white wolf first appeared to me in that dream. Since then she has become by guardian, my guide, and my most trusted inner voice. She is the inspiration behind White Wolf Mystic. She is the gentle whisper that says, "Dig deeper. The truth is close at hand." She is instinct, gut-feelings, and eternal wisdom. She speaks not only to me, but to you as well, guiding you on your journey.
