Truth, Lies, & Omissions: Uranus Enters Gemini
Four outer planets change signs this year, a rare occurrence which marks 2025 as a year of major change. For context, when reading the below article, the chronology is as follows: Neptune entered Aries on March 30th, Saturn entered Aries on May 24th, Jupiter entered Cancer on June 9th, and Uranus enters Gemini on July 7th.
Coyotes have often been associated with Trickster energy. Uranus is similar in nature to the trickster in that it creates chaos and confusion. And yet, just as the coyote is an important creature to our ecosystem and serves a sacred function, so too does Uranus and the mischief it generates."Diana The Desert Coyote" painting by Jen Farnsworth.
On July 7th, the fourth and final major shift of 2025 occurs as Uranus leaves Taurus---for the first time in 7 years---and enters Gemini. What does this mean? Why are Neptune, Saturn, Jupiter and Uranus the major players of this year? And what shifts is Uranus about to bring? Let's explore:
Imagine we are all sitting together in the seats of a great cosmic theater. Music begins to play, the curtains are raised, the stage illuminates and the story begins. Neptune in Aries arrives and begins its opening monologue. Neptune speaks about boldness and courage, about the personal and spiritual growth that happens when we take risks, when we believe in ourselves enough to pick ourselves up again after failure, heartbreak, or disappointment. Neptune romanticizes the rewards of facing our fears and becoming the warrior we know we can be. Neptune sings beautiful songs filled with inspiring ideas.
Next, Saturn enters the scene. Saturn is more pragmatic, more serious and responsible. Saturn challenges Neptune by firing off a litany of questions: "How do we go about taking risks? What does that actually look like? What's your strategy? What mindset or preparations do you need to make before diving into risk? What happens when you take that leap of faith and fail? How do you handle disappointment and rebuild confidence? How will you navigate your pain and stress in the moment? What tools help you build distress tolerance and resilience? What does it look like to walk your talk?" Neptune bristles at these practical questions, believing that it's more fun to daydream, and Saturn doesn't like evading responsibility and moving forward without a plan, so the two planets begin to quarrel with each other.
Jupiter in Cancer then steps between the two arguing planets. Jupiter understands that neither Neptune nor Saturn is right or wrong, they both have needs. Neptune needs to feel creative and inspired, and Saturn needs to control, predict, and prepare. Jupiter begins to encourage the two planets to express their needs and feelings, so they can arrive at a mutual understanding of how to lovingly support each other. Jupiter recognizes that relationships are fundamental to meaningful growth. After a little while, with the encouragement and empathy of Jupiter, Neptune and Saturn begin to see eye-to-eye and are working together. All appears well and a happy ending is now in sight.
Now enter Uranus, the great trickster. Just when things seem to be going well again, Uranus mischievously weaves a web of chaos and confusion, creating the necessary catalyst to challenge our protagonists and bring about the climax of the story. What will Neptune, Saturn, and Jupiter do now? How will the heroes of the story overcome this new conflict?
That is where we are at in the play; this is the part that is yet to come.
In Gemini, Uranus deals with ideas and communication, and most importantly---with truth. The truth we are seeking is not the ultimate truth---what gives life meaning, which philosophy creates the greatest sense of peace, why are we all here, what is the nature of the Universe, and is there a God---no, ultimate truth is Sagittarius's domain. Truth in the Gemini sense deals with facts, logic, and reason. What actually took place? What was said? What is the research to back that up? What is real and what is false?
Uranus arriving in Gemini will throw us curveballs to challenge how we ascertain truth. Uranus will unearth truths that have long been buried, and will obscure other truths from view, distorting our perception and causing us to question which way is up or down. Uranian mischief can leave us with vertigo. In our cosmic play above, Neptune, Saturn and Jupiter---who are on the path to courage, risk, and emotional connection---must now navigate misinformation, lies, and cognitive distortions.
Let's chat for a moment about the archetype of the Trickster. The trickster may seem mischievous, but in the grand scheme of things, they actually facilitate the protagonist's highest growth. Without the trickster, the hero would remain naive, unchallenged, and untested. The trickster is an essential player in the path to attaining strength, discernment, and truth.
Right now, our reality is peppered with confusion, fake news, and AI. It is becoming harder to discern truth from lies, reality from illusion, honesty from manipulation, and clarity from convenient omissions of data. Uranus in Gemini will amplify this, creating further confusion but ultimately guiding us towards a greater ability to sniff out fact from fiction. Over the course of the next 7 years of Uranus's journey through Gemini, we will develop the skepticism and intellectual shrewdness necessary to learn how to free ourselves from lies, propaganda, and delusion. This is Uranus's goal, anyhow.
Any true Uranian journey begins with learning to question everything. We must poke and prod at what we're being presented with, and ask the important questions that reveal holes in the very foundation of news, social media, the internet, politics, history, science, and education.
Let me share an example of a recent experience I had about the omission of information. About a month ago, I was watching a podcast clip of Tara Roberts, a black woman and a published author and National Geographic explorer, sharing her frustration about how she grew up learning about important ships like the Mayflower, the Titanic, and the Santa Maria, and yet only as an adult did she discover that there were approximately 12,000 ships that carried 12.5 million Africans across the ocean to the United States for the slave trade, and yet she didn't know a single name of one of those ships. Why?? More importantly, she later learned that 1.5 million Africans never survived the crossing. "Where is their memorial? Who is honoring that enormous loss of life?" she asked.
Hearing what Ms. Roberts had to share shocked me too. Why hadn't I ever learned of this? Why was this not taught in my school growing up?
In the spirit of Uranus in Gemini, we can ask ourselves the very important question: is history an accurate reflection of the true course of events? Or are some events conveniently left out of books, classes, and schools? Is history an honest account of what happened, or is it manipulated to serve the interests of the educated, the privileged, and those in power? Which "truth" is being served to us, who stands to gain from the narrative we are presented with, and what are their motivations?
These are the questions we need to be asking ourselves and each other, and we need to be posing the hard questions to the very people and organizations that govern our lives.
Truth and transparency are universal human rights. With the assistance of Uranus in Gemini, we can demand this of ourselves, our relationships, and our leaders.
Uranus can help us become smarter and wiser.
